When I was looking to PR my first children's book, I was worried about getting visible, and didn't have everything in place. I had complete mindset blocks about getting PR (even though I had worked in the industry for eight years by this time) and I wasn't entirely sure who my ideal client was. But once I worked all of this out, I was able to step out of my own way and start taking consistent action. I had a website built so that Journalists had something to link to and because I knew I needed images of me with my book, I also had a brand photoshoot completed so I had professional images. It made all the difference. Once I stopped allowing fear to hold me back, Journalists started featuring me, and celebrities started talking about my book too and that in turn led to more sales.General Feedback text for Overall score of 26-50%PR Beginner It's great that you're starting to get to grips with how PR can elevate your expert status and visibility. Please don't hold yourself back through fear or the lack of response you might get. PR is all about tenacity and keeping on going until you get a result. It's why having media logos on your website is so valuable - it's a third-party endorsement of you and your business and positions you above your competitors.General Feedback text for Overall score of 76-100%You're a PR star in the making! Congratulations, you understand the importance that harnessing PR can have for your business. Think about how you can secure regular PR opportunities that align with your Business Objectives and plans. 2021 is yours for the taking - now go get visible through harnessing the power of PR!Topic 1 Key Area of ImprovementIdeal ClientKnowing your ideal client is really key to understanding what media they read, listen to or watch. It looks like you could do with knowing more about what they look at and once you have this down to a fine art, you will be better placed to know which publications you should be approaching for coverage.Topic 2 Key Area of ImprovementYour StoryKnowing your story and the angles that could be of interest to a Journalist is everything when it comes to successful PR.Why? It enables your potential clients to get to know you and builds those all-important know, like and trust factors. But please remember that your story is just that - yours. And only share things you're happy to share.Go back and start writing down a list of key moments and achievements and build your story from there. Topic 3 Key Area of ImprovementVisibilityLooks like you are having trouble with this key topic area. Don't worry, you're not alone.Being visible can feel scary and it can seem strange talking about yourself. But consistently putting yourself 'out there' will let more people know what you do and mean that you're seen as an expert in your field. So it's time to get out of your own way, and remember it's not about you. It's about your ideal clients and how you can help them.Topic 4 Key Area of ImprovementMedia KnowledgeKnowing the media can take time, especially if it's not something that you have previously done.Having worked in the media both as a Journalist and now a PR expert for over 25 years, it's something that comes as second nature. But if you know what publications your ideal clients read, listen to or watch, you will know which publications to read, listen to or watch yourself. Make sure you do your research as it will shine through in any approaches to Journalists. You have so got this!Topic 5 Key Area of ImprovementConfidenceLooks like you are having trouble with this key topic area. Don't worry, I think we all do from time to time.We can hold ourselves back from going for opportunities because we think, "why would they want to hear from me?"But if you re-frame it to be, why wouldn't they want to hear from you, then very soon, one step at a time you will feel better about making any approaches. You can do this!Topic 6 Key Area of ImprovementPR ResourcesHaving a good set of PR Resources for your business is really important. The majority of stories need pictures or video to accompany them. Invest in a professional photography shoot and take the time to write your long and short biography. Knowing your story is also key to gaining any PR coverage and having a professional looking website can make the difference of being featured or not. Make sure all of your PR ducks are in a row, and there will be no stopping you.Call to Action 0-25%If you would like to understand more about how PR can help you be known as the go-to expert in your field and for you to cement your reach and impact, come and join my FREE Facebook group The Communications Community - where I provide lots of tips for you to get started.
